MATLAB 7.0 (R14) was released in 2004, long before Windows 7 was out. For
supported OS on R14, see:
http://www.mathworks.com/support/sysreq/release14/index.html

So, since Win 7 is not listed on the supported OS for 2009b
http://www.mathworks.com/support/sysreq/current_release/

2009b owners have no right to expect that it will run there?

The following information is from our technical support area:

http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-92CVOW/

"Are products from The MathWorks supported on Windows 7?"

The MathWorks is working towards qualifying releases for the Windows 7
platform with 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. However, at this time we
do not have any definitive information for a release date.

Some of the customers have reported that they are able to use our
products on the Windows 7 Release Candidate. We are currently testing
the forthcoming R2009b release with the Windows 7 Release Candidate and
we expect to be able to formally support R2009b on Windows 7. We are not
aware of any fundamental limitations.

Until the final version of Windows 7 is released in October 2009 and
qualified with our products, The MathWorks can not warrant product
compatibility. System requirements will be updated as information
becomes available.

I tested the Mathlab 2009A and 2009B both x86 and x64 versions on Windows 7 x64. They all worked great.

exactly what have you tried and exactly what doesn't do
what you expect? Obviously this isn't supported
but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work.

So- post details and perhaps someone can help

I just had the same issue. Go into the folder where your matlab is installed. Right click the application (.exe file) and go to the compatibility tab. Then choose to run in windows 2000 compability mode. Works great

Thank you. I tried that, it works so far.
There is another option - to change to the Windows classic theme; works too. That one would be a little bit annoying though.
