Does not work on my windowsXP. MATLAB R13.
Appending doesn't display the new line if it is out of the statusbar window (because the text is displayed from the top, the newlines added at the bottom).
Some callbacks have a strange name that says "register" instead of the file name "statusbar".
Having no "CreateFcn" sends an error.

I dont know about other platforms.
