Shanghai University of Engineering Science Implements MATLAB and Simulink School-Wide

Wide Deployment of MathWorks Tools Supports University’s Role in Ministry of Education Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers

Natick, Mass. - (30 Jun 2011)

MathWorks today announced that Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) is equipping all students, faculty, and lab staff at its College of Automotive Engineering with MATLAB, Simulink, and over 30 additional MathWorks products for analysis, design, simulation, code generation, and verification. These products, selected because of their widespread use in the automotive industry, will be installed across the college’s teaching facilities, including the new SUES-MathWorks Automotive Simulation Technical Center.

SUES is one of 61 universities selected by China’s Ministry of Education to participate in its Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers (PETOE).  Established in 2010, PETOE provides funding for students at elite engineering schools to participate in a multiyear study program culminating in a year-long work assignment in industry.

“Providing our faculty and students with the state-of-the-art tools used in the automotive industry is a vital part of our program,” said Yansong Wang, Vice Dean of College of Automotive Engineering, Shanghai University of Engineering Science. “In addition, courses that are more interactive and hands-on through the use of MathWorks products help students understand and apply automotive engineering concepts and Model-Based Design for embedded development. That, combined with our PETOE participation, enables our graduates – China’s future automotive design engineers – to be highly productive when they enter the workforce.”

“Education that encompasses theory and real-world problem-solving is critical to developing the next generation of engineers,” said Jim Tung, MathWorks Fellow.  “By equipping its courses and labs with the software tools and techniques widely adopted by automotive companies around the world, Shanghai University of Engineering Science is nurturing and preparing engineering talent to address the automotive designs of the future.”
